Modern Methods of Mobility Seminars

Modern Methods of Mobility Seminars

Ardour catches up with Emmet Louis at his flagship seminar Modern Methods of Mobility in London. We chat to Emmet about the premise of the two-day workshop, who it's aimed at and how it differs from other mobility workshops. #ARDOUR #MoveBetter

Due to Covid-19, all M3 seminars are suspended for 2020.

Workshop Description:

Through Emmet’s work, he has proven time and again that with the deliberate mix of well thought out methods, exceptional flexibility and mobility are achievable for adults with all kinds of training backgrounds. In this seminar he will focus on presenting his approach to building flexibility and resilience throughout the whole body, paying special attention to the correct application concerning the adult body.

The Modern Methods of Mobility are a practice based approach built from years of experience working with all levels and ranges people. With this unique view point, Emmet has been able to get to the base concepts and principles of flexibility development from complete beginner to advanced contortion.

He will give an overview of the Modern Methods of Mobility system for increasing flexibility and mobility, as well as deliver an in-depth explanation of his personal experiences in coaching his students via these strategies. Over the last decade Emmet has tested, filtered and selected the most powerful techniques from an extensive and diverse range of backgrounds and disciplines. You will benefit from his trials and errors, and walk away with a host of different methods to safely experiment with.

Concepts covered:

The roles of the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system in flexibility development and how the techniques we choose will influence the types of tissue we work on.

Developing Full Range Strength

learn how to develop strength across the whole range of motion, including the end range strength in both the contracted and extended positions.

Innate flexibility

Learn how to express your innate level of flexibility quickly. A lot of the time, people have a much greater range of motion than they think. By using certain drills and sequencing to educate the nervous system on how to express this range of motion, you can learn to teach your body how to pull into these ranges.

Fascial changing techniques

Learn how to understand the role of fascial changing techniques such as ballistic stretching and the “creep” effect and when to implement them.

gravity

Learn the role that gravity plays in stretching and a range of tactics to use gravity to our advantage – both to assist and to further challenge our flexibility training.

Ballistic Stretching

in contrast to the undeserved, bad reputation ballistic stretching has in the western world, we’ve discovered massive benefits to this, apparently scary, term. Come and learn how to apply the modern, safe synthesis of these, which we term Rhythmic Dynamic Ballistics (RDB). They will deliver life long flexibility when applied correctly. If you want to change the properties of your fascia you must bounce!

Loaded Stretching

While it’s a buzzword at the moment, there are indeed extraordinary results to be gained from applying the loaded stretching techniques. We’ll go into detail on how to apply these methods ranging from techniques using only bodyweight, added resistance and partners.

Covered body areas:

The anatomy of the shoulder presents some interesting problems when it comes to gaining and maintaining range of motion. With the combination of exercises we teach, we can finally get those shoulders to open, enabling you to go ahead with skills that require extreme upper body mobility like, for example, the bridge as a gateway to more advanced tricking and all forms of the Mexican handstand, to name a few.

For the hips, we’ll cover deep squats, leading to side splits and full pancake, as well as hamstring flexibility for the full pike as well as front splits. The techniques we teach for hip flexors are some of the most powerful in the world for freeing up the anterior chain.

We will also cover backbending by using tactile cues to build body awareness and again teach the spine to pull into the desired range.
This seminar is suitable for beginners and seasoned coaches alike, as all exercises are principle based and are scalable to all levels. Emmet makes sure to cater both to people with no experience by giving them a physical entry to the material, as well as explaining the more theoretical background of the principles for those wishing to implement the system in their own teaching.
